Dinner Time At Wellington's

A common question:

I'm hungry for pub food and quiet Parry Sound steeped atmosphere, where should I go?

A common answer:

Wellington's.

Wellington's is a pub and grill just on the outside of what would be considered the downtown. Like many buildings, it has the brick exterior but with a big green overhang.

Having been to Europe, and in pubs, I find that Wellington's entry emphasizes what a pub is -- and that is a local gathering place. The way in is close, with one wall containing a panel of adds from other local businesses. Then it opens in to a warmly lit room, with the bar and its tap shining brightly. The waitress will seat you now.

The walls are decorated in some of the most iconic imagery of Parry Sound. The iron train bridge, boats, and history. Images of what the town looked like in its infancy are everywhere as are the things it was founded upon: trains and ships. It’s a good place to go after you've checked out the museum and understand what the pictures mean.

But we're not just here to stare at the wall. We're hungry. We're here for the food.

The food is your standard pub food, with the Parry Sound twist of seafood to the menu. If you have the dough, shell out for some of the locally caught stuff. If not, do what I do and help yourself to some of their great sandwiches, and fish and chips. If there is one thing I recommend though, it’s the fries. In town, they are my favourite. A nice balance between crispy and potato without being dry.

I've always had a fondness for Wellington's. It’s a great place to meet and catch up after time apart. It’s a good place to take a date too. Even better, if you have a larger group of people, they'll gladly line the tables up.
